If you’re looking for a monster camera without spending close to 500 bucks on a bulky SLR, take a look at Canon’s new Powershot SD 1400. It’s got a 14.1 megapixel resolution and a 28mm wide-angle lens with a 4x digital zoom, and takes some of the clearest pics I’ve ever seen from a compact digital.

I personally love having a small camera to take anywhere I go, whether its to the slopes during snow season or the beach in the summer, and the Powershot SD 1400 is great for both! First of all, it’s got a Smart AUTO mode that will change the camera’s settings for you depending on where you are, so you don’t even have to think about messing with the settings when life happens and you want to capture it quickly.

Plus, it has over twenty auto modes, including one for intense sun and one for snowy conditions that counteracts all of the reflective light that usually causes your pictures to blur or look really blue and unusable. On top of that, it’s got an Optical Image Stabilizer to help with motion shots and camera shake.

Canon was also nice enough to allow the Powershot SD 1400 to take HD video, and with its built in HDMI out, I can film a run down the slopes and plug it right into the TV to watch it after getting back to the lodge.  At only $249, the Canon Powershot SD 1400 might be the coolest little camera you can take anywhere you go!
